Trapani mourning 17-year-old Alessandro Savona after fatal scooter accident

A 17-year-old student, Alessandro Savona, died following a severe scooter accident on the Dante Alighieri seafront in Trapani on Monday, October 19. Savona was riding a 125cc scooter toward Erice when he reportedly lost control and struck a sidewalk near the Punta Tipa Hotel.

A 14-year-old girl traveling with him was also seriously injured. While both were wearing helmets, the impact was violent. The girl was transferred to the Ismett hospital in Palermo for surgery, where she remains in serious condition.

Local authorities, including the Trapani Local Police, are investigating the cause of the crash. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the nearby hotel to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the incident. The community has expressed deep mourning, with the Trapani City Council observing a minute of silence to honor the student from Liceo Scientifico Fardella-Ximenes. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, at the Basilica Maria Santissima Annunziata.
