Trapani reports strong artisanal employment and low inflation

Recent economic data highlights contrasting trends for the province of Trapani, Sicily. According to research by CNA based on Istat data, the craftsmanship sector remains a vital component of the local economy. In 2023, artisanal enterprises accounted for 20.2% of all active businesses in the province, and 19.8% of the workforce was employed in this sector. This employment rate is significantly higher than the Italian national average of 13.4%, trailing only Enna in the Sicilian region.

However, the sector has faced a long-term decline, with the incidence of artisanal businesses in Trapani dropping by 4.3 percentage points between 2014 and 2023.

Regarding the cost of living, data from the Unione Nazionale Consumatori indicates that Trapani is among the cities with the lowest inflation impact in Italy. As of July 2026, the city recorded an annual inflation rate of 2.3%, ranking 75th out of 78 cities studied. While this is relatively low, the average family in Trapani still faces an additional annual expenditure of 531 euros. This inflation rate is notably lower than the Italian national average of 2.9% and significantly lower than other Sicilian cities such as Syracuse, Catania, and Palermo.
