Trapani revokes 287 cemetery concessions due to space shortage
The municipality of Trapani has issued an ordinance to address a severe shortage of burial spaces in the local cemetery. Through mayoral ordinance no. 65, dated September 22, 2026, the administration has revoked 287 cemetery concessions, including perpetual ones, located in the ‘Economici PAX’ pavilions.
The measure targets concessions lasting over 99 years that were issued prior to the 1975 decree and where at least fifty years have passed since the last burial. This action follows a previous revocation of 405 similar concessions earlier in the year. The administration cited a ‘grave insufficiency’ of available niches, noting an increasing number of remains temporarily held in cemetery storage due to the lack of permanent space.
