Trapani strengthens institutional support for maritime development and 2027 Sea Capital bid

Institutional support is growing in Trapani for a major national event focused on the future and development of the local port. This initiative aligns with the city’s candidacy to become the ‘Italian Sea Capital 2027’ under the project ‘Trapani 2027 – La città generata dal mare’. Key local entities, including the Port System Authority of the West Sicilian Sea, the Free Municipal Consortium of Trapani, and the Chamber of Commerce, have expressed their commitment to this collaborative vision.

Parallel to these efforts, a proposal for a ‘diffuse port’ model is being presented to the General States of Coastal Development. Proposed by Rear Admiral Rosario Marchese, the concept aims to create a networked destination by connecting various local ports—including Marsala, Mazara del Vallo, and the Aegadian Islands—with land-based tourism, dining, and cultural itineraries. This strategy is part of the ‘BLU TRAPANI 2028–2035’ plan, seeking to integrate maritime arrivals with the broader regional economy and the ‘Itinerari del Gusto’ portal.
