Trapani to host coastal development summit for 2028–2035 planning
The GAL della Pesca Trapanese has announced the 'Stati Generali dello Sviluppo Costiero' (General States of Coastal Development) for the province of Trapani, scheduled for September 24, 2026, at the Lazzaretto. The event aims to establish a strategic framework for coastal development for the 2028–2035 period.
Key strategic pillars include the creation of a unified provincial port system involving Trapani, Mazara del Vallo, Marsala, Pantelleria, and the Egadi Islands. Other objectives focus on diversifying coastal tourism, developing an integrated shipbuilding and nautical district, evolving the fishing industry toward sustainable models, and transforming minor islands into 'smart islands' with improved digital and maritime connectivity.
Rear Admiral Rosario Marchese, advisor to the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies, will serve as a keynote speaker. He is expected to discuss the evolution of national regulations regarding ports, maritime resource protection, and territorial programming. Marchese has proposed a 'distributed port' model for the Trapani coastline, similar to the model used for the Strait of Messina, to create a cohesive maritime network.
