Trapani water supply threatened by infrastructure theft

The city of Trapani is facing a water supply crisis exacerbated by repeated thefts at critical infrastructure. Recent incidents at the Bresciana wells, a strategic point for the municipal water network, involved the theft of electrical cables and damage to electrical panels.

Mayor Giacomo Tranchida reported that these recurring thefts target essential services, though the full economic impact and specific timeline for repairs have not yet been disclosed. The damage to these facilities threatens the stability of the local water distribution system.

In response to reports of families struggling to access water and receiving inadequate information regarding delivery schedules, the consumer rights organization Codacons has called on the Sicilian Region to intervene. Codacons is requesting that authorities ensure adequate water tanker services and prioritize assistance for vulnerable populations, including the elderly and people with disabilities.
