Trapezitsa fortress research results presented in Veliko Tarnovo
Officials, archaeologists, and scientists gathered at the Trapezitsa historical hill in Veliko Tarnovo to present the results of long-term research, restoration, and socialization of the medieval city. The event highlighted the transformation of Trapezitsa from an archaeological site into an accessible historical complex for visitors.
Trapezitsa served as the second fortified core of the capital, Tarnovgrad, during the Second Bulgarian Empire. The findings from two decades of research have been compiled in the volume ‘The Medieval City of Trapezitsa’.
Veliko Tarnovo Mayor Daniel Panov announced that the municipality has initiated the design process for the restoration, conservation, and adaptation of the archaeological sites in the southern and eastern sectors of the fortress. Previous restoration efforts were supported by the Ministry of Culture and funding from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
