TRASEKA considers China and Pakistan for membership
The Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRASEKA) is considering the potential membership of China and Pakistan. This development was discussed during a meeting between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov and Jasurbek Choriyev, the Secretary General of the TRASEKA Intergovernmental Commission.
Discussions focused on deepening cooperation between Azerbaijan and TRASEKA and implementing strategic initiatives to unlock the transit and transport potential of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridor. Azerbaijan is prioritizing the modernization of its national transport and logistics infrastructure to ensure the resilience of transit chains amidst geopolitical and economic shifts.
The corridor currently handles 4.5 million tons of cargo, with a target to increase this volume to 30 million tons. To achieve this, officials aim to reduce delivery times from the current 20–36 days to approximately 15 days, enhancing the route's competitiveness against traditional sea freight, which currently accounts for 95 percent of Asia-Europe cargo flows.
