Poland's tourism surge pressures German Baltic resorts

Denmark's public broadcaster DR described Poland as a new European “superpower” because of a rapid boom in tourism. The report noted that 20 million foreign visitors came to Poland last year and that the figure is expected to rise to 23 million this year, driven by competitive prices, family‑friendly attractions and new projects such as a giant hotel opened in Pobierowo.

Polish tourism growth is challenging German Baltic seaside resorts. Entrepreneurs in Międzyzdroje said Polish destinations are becoming a strong alternative for German tourists, offering lower costs and more activities for children. The same trend is attracting Czech visitors, who increasingly travel to the Polish coast via the new S3 highway that provides a fast, toll‑free link.

Analysts linked the surge to Poland’s EU membership, which they say boosted the economy by more than 40 % compared with a non‑EU scenario, raised wages above those in Spain, and positioned Poland close to G20 status. One‑quarter of Polish firms plan to increase employment this year, underscoring the sector’s broader economic impact.
