Bosnia and Herzegovina tourism interest soars 5,800% after World Cup success
After the national football team reached the round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup, interest in visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina surged dramatically. Analysts at Iglu Cruise reported that Google searches for trips to the country grew by about 5,800 % in July compared with the same period a year earlier. The boost is credited to the team's strong showing and to the country's reputation as an affordable European destination with rich cultural heritage and natural attractions such as the Una National Park, the historic bridge in Mostar, and the Kravica waterfalls.
Tourism experts note that almost two million visitors arrived in Sarajevo last year and that visitor numbers are expected to keep rising. Travel influencers who toured the region in August highlighted the “Herzegovinian Himalayas” and praised the blend of Ottoman, Austro‑Hungarian and Yugoslav legacies that make the country appealing to budget‑ conscious travelers. The combined effect of sporting success and social‑media exposure is positioning Bosnia and Herzegovina as a fast‑growing tourist hotspot in southeastern Europe.
