Travel trends: Managing vacation anxiety and hotel etiquette

Travelers often face vacation anxiety, a phenomenon where the brain struggles to transition from a high-pressure routine to a state of relaxation. This can lead to stress regarding work, constant phone checking, or the perceived obligation to have a 'perfect' holiday. Experts suggest managing this by embracing spontaneity, letting go of the need to visit every attraction, and practicing a digital detox by setting specific times to avoid notifications.

Regarding hotel etiquette, there is a distinction between acceptable and unacceptable items to take upon checkout. Single-use toiletries, dental kits, shower caps, mini soaps, and coffee or tea sachets are generally considered acceptable to take. Slippers are also in a gray area, often expected to be taken in luxury settings. However, taking items designed for reuse, such as towels and bathrobes, is considered crossing the line; a survey of European hotel staff found that 8 out of 10 reported towels are frequent targets of theft.
