Komodo National Park divers rescued after being swept out to sea

A group of divers was successfully rescued after being swept away by strong underwater currents in Indonesia’s Komodo National Park near Flores island. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 4, when a diving team was separated from their guides.

Four individuals were initially reported missing: Austrian national Patricia Retter, Irish nationals Dervla Mulligan and Darragh McKiernan, and local diving instructor Frederik Horimpun. Following a large-scale search operation involving the marine police, local fishermen, and thermal imaging drones, all four were found alive. Patricia Retter was located approximately 6 kilometers from the site, while the two Irish tourists were found drifting in the sea still wearing their diving gear. The local instructor was also located by a police boat shortly thereafter.
