TravelAI Acquires Sonder Brand and Launches AI‑Powered Booking Platform

Vancouver‑based TravelAI, operating under UpNext Ventures Inc., bought the Sonder brand, including more than 50 global trademark registrations and over 70 domain names, through a court‑supervised bankruptcy sale of Sonder’s Canadian subsidiaries. The transaction excluded Sonder’s operating business, properties, leases, inventory and staff; financial terms were not disclosed.

TravelAI has relaunched Sonder.com as a curated guide for boutique hotels and design‑led urban accommodations, offering affiliate links to partners such as Booking.com, Expedia and Vrbo. The move expands TravelAI’s AI‑driven travel platform, which already serves over 50 million travelers annually through a network of more than 530 travel brands across 200 countries.

Sonder was founded in Montreal in 2012, grew to a roughly $2 billion USD valuation and went public in 2022. After Marriott International terminated a long‑standing licensing agreement in late 2025, Sonder entered bankruptcy. TravelAI co‑founder and CEO John Lyotier said the acquisition secures a name that “people remember and a standard of taste they trusted,” and will be used to power AI‑enabled personalization and memory‑based travel recommendations.
