Traveler grievances reported in Cluj and Bucharest

Two separate incidents involving travelers in Romania have sparked discussions on social media regarding service standards and local enforcement.

In Cluj-Napoca, a customer expressed frustration on Reddit after discovering a 12% tip had been automatically added to a restaurant bill without prior notification. The customer, who intended to leave a tip voluntarily, chose to pay only for the consumed items after questioning the staff about the unannounced charge.

In Bucharest, a British tourist reported being fined 80 lei on a public bus after a misunderstanding with a transit controller. The tourist stated that after his card was repeatedly declined, a controller approached him and used Google Translate to instruct him to pay via a mobile device. The traveler believed he was being assisted with a payment solution, but the transaction was actually processed as a fine. The tourist alleged that the controller may have intentionally blocked the payment system during the attempt.
