Travelers encounter unexpected payment issues in Italy and Switzerland
Two separate incidents involving unusual payment experiences have been reported in Europe. In Venice, Italy, a tourist discovered a live music fee on her restaurant bill at a cafe in San Marco Square. After consuming two Aperol Spritzes, a toast, and a croissant, her total reached 72 euros, which included a seven-euro charge for the musical ensemble performing at the venue.
In Winterthur, Switzerland, a pensioner accidentally left a tip of 1,612 Swiss francs (approximately 1,700 euros) at a bakery near the main station. The error likely occurred during a card payment when the customer mistakenly entered the tip amount instead of her PIN. The mistake was only identified after a counselor from the organization Pro Senectute reviewed her bank statements. The bakery eventually approved the refund after a verification process.
