Travelers face border issues with damaged IDs and strict surveillance

Travelers are facing unexpected complications at borders due to document integrity and strict automated enforcement. In one instance, a passenger traveling to Larnaka, Cyprus, was denied boarding after Border Guard officials rejected an authentic but heavily damaged identity card. The document, which had been taped together by the owner, was deemed unreadable and impossible to verify, illustrating that physical damage can invalidate a document's utility for travel.

Separately, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning regarding North Macedonia’s Safe City surveillance system. A Polish driver was detained at the Tabanovce border crossing after cameras recorded him driving 164 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Because the speed exceeded the threshold for criminal negligence in North Macedonia, the driver faced potential criminal charges, including imprisonment and a driving ban, rather than a simple fine.
