Travellers' caravan camps prompt council legal action in England

Dozens of caravans have been parked on a recreation ground in Quinton, Birmingham, with new vehicles arriving overnight and encroaching on outdoor gym equipment. Birmingham City Council said it is committed to protecting its land and will take steps to recover it, while West Midlands Police confirmed they are aware of the situation and are working with partners to resolve it. The encampment has also raised concerns about scheduled waste‑recycling truck visits.

In Middlesbrough, a second illegal encampment was reported in the Park End area after a previous caravan settlement in Stewart Park was cleared. Middlesbrough Council announced legal action to remove the vehicles and said it is cooperating with Cleveland Police. Both councils are seeking court orders and other measures to clear the unauthorised sites and prevent further arrivals.
