Traveloka data shows Southeast Asian travelers upgrade trips during sales
Data from the travel platform Traveloka indicates that Southeast Asian travelers are using sale periods to upgrade their trips rather than simply seeking cheaper alternatives. During regional sale events in May and July 2026, the growth in flight seats, room nights, and activity tickets outpaced the overall increase in the number of bookings.
Alex Jung, Head of Marketing at Traveloka, noted that travelers use these discounts to afford better experiences, such as adding extra nights, upgrading hotel star ratings, including additional cities in itineraries, or purchasing optional theme park tickets.
Traveloka is planning an upcoming sale from September 7 to 11 across Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Japan, and South Korea. Demand is currently concentrated in East Asia, with South Korea and Japan serving as primary focus destinations.
