Travis Hunter's offensive role under scrutiny by Jaguars coaching staff

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has indicated the team is looking for ways to increase the offensive involvement of Travis Hunter. After a Week 2 loss to the Denver Broncos, where the offense struggled, Coen noted that the team is evaluating how to better utilize Hunter in the attack.

Hunter, the 2025 No. 2 overall pick, has primarily functioned as a defensive player this season. In the game against Denver, he played 37 defensive snaps but only six offensive snaps, recording just one catch for eight yards. This contrasts sharply with his collegiate performance at Colorado, where he played significant snaps on both sides of the ball.

The limited offensive usage has drawn criticism from sports personality Jason Whitlock, who labeled Hunter a “bust” and suggested that Deion Sanders had oversold his ability as a two-way player. Currently, the Jaguars are managing a rotation at cornerback, with Hunter ranking third in snaps played among the team's defensive backs.
