Brazil electoral courts issue rulings on fraud, propaganda, and eligibility

Brazilian electoral courts are issuing several rulings regarding candidate eligibility, campaign conduct, and fraud. In Amazonas, the TRE-AM recognized gender quota fraud in Tapauá, leading to the annulment of votes and the cassation of party certificates, though some elected councilors avoided personal ineligibility. In Maranhão, the TRE-MA upheld a fine against Eduardo Braide for early campaign propaganda and rejected a challenge against a local election poll. Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Maranhão reported a 77% increase in candidate registration challenges compared to 2022, aided by AI-driven screening tools.

In São Paulo, the TRE-SP prohibited candidate Giovanni Giudice Calderon from using the surname of the Guarulhos mayor to avoid voter confusion. The court also ordered the removal of social media posts falsely linking Fernando Haddad to a fabricated attack on businessman Luciano Hang. In other matters, the TSE granted a preliminary injunction to allow councilman Rubens Neri to remain in office pending further appeals regarding his party affiliation change.
