TRE-MT issues rulings on potential ineligibility for political figures

The Regional Electoral Court of Mato Grosso (TRE-MT) has issued significant rulings regarding the eligibility of political figures following recent elections.

Journalist and former city council candidate Kassiano Araújo de Souza, known as Kassiano Souza da TV, has been declared ineligible for eight years. The court found him responsible for the misuse of social communication and abuse of economic power during the 2024 elections in Lucas do Rio Verde. The decision noted that although Souza had formally stepped away from hosting a local program, he continued to use a virtual character, “Patrãozinho” or “Kassianinho,” to maintain his image on television during his campaign.

Separately, a judicial investigation is entering its final phase involving former governor Pedro Taques. The action alleges abuse of economic power and misuse of communication media during a Senate Federal election campaign. If the court finds the allegations of repeated and abusive dissemination of content against a rival candidate to be true, the defendants could also face an eight-year period of ineligibility. The presiding judge has moved to judgment based on existing digital and documentary evidence.
