Rio de Janeiro electoral court changes 268 polling locations

The Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro (TRE-RJ) has issued an alert to voters regarding changes to polling locations for the 2026 elections. A total of 268 locations have been altered, affecting approximately 610,000 voters in the state.

Some changes, involving 66 locations, were implemented in August to enhance security and prevent the influence of organized crime and militias. Other recent modifications stem from issues regarding accessibility, structural needs, or the closure of previous establishments.

TRE-RJ President Claudio de Mello Tavares advises voters to confirm their specific polling station and section number via the official website, the e-Título app, or the Disque TRE-RJ telephone service. He recommends that voters note their candidates' numbers on paper to ensure a smoother process on election day.

In a separate political development, more than half of the 51 current Rio de Janeiro city councilors (26 individuals) are running for higher offices in the upcoming elections. These candidates are seeking seats in the Chamber of Deputies, the State Legislative Assembly (Alerj), the Senate, and the State Government.
