Trebisacce establishes permanent Vigili del Fuoco detachment

A permanent detachment of the Vigili del Fuoco (National Fire Corps) has been officially established in Trebisacce, under the jurisdiction of the Cosenza provincial command. The decision follows a decree signed on June 8, 2026, by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi.

The new permanent station aims to strengthen rescue capabilities in the Alto Ionio Cosentino area, where geographic features and travel distances can impact response times for fires, road accidents, and weather-related emergencies. The measure was proposed by the provincial commander and supported by the regional director for Calabria.

While the station is now formally part of the national organization, it is currently awaiting the assignment of necessary personnel. Full operational capacity depends on the availability of newly recruited staff and the adjustment of organizational staffing levels. In the interim, the site has provided daytime services through teams deployed under the AIB (Forest Firefighting) convention.
