Trecastagni animal cruelty investigation launched after puppies found dead

Authorities are investigating the deaths of several puppies found in the countryside of Trecastagni, near Mount Etna, in Sicily. Reports indicate that six puppies were found dead and one remains missing. Local volunteers have raised suspicions of poisoning, noting that similar incidents involving animal deaths occurred in the same area in previous years.

The Italian Animalist Party (Partito Animalista Italiano) has filed a formal complaint against unknown persons, calling for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible. Patrick Battipaglia, the party's regional coordinator, emphasized the need for justice and effective tools to prevent such cruelty.

In response to the incident, volunteers have organized a sit-in at Piazza Marconi on Sunday, October 25, to raise awareness about animal mistreatment, abandonment, and poisoning. Additionally, the Italian Animalist Party is collecting signatures for the “Legge Leone,” a proposed popular law aimed at increasing penalties for those who mistreat or kill animals.
