Tree falls in Naco and Coyoacán cause local disruptions
In the Naco district of Santo Domingo, a laurel tree over 15 years old fell onto a service vehicle on Thursday afternoon. The incident, caused by heavy rains and soil moisture, knocked down two electric poles and interrupted power services in the area. Two occupants of the vehicle were uninjured.
In the Coyoacán borough of Mexico City, an 18-meter tall tree fell onto a kindergarten garden roof in the Parque San Andrés neighborhood. Local residents blocked División del Norte avenue to protest a nearby social housing construction project managed by the Mexico City Institute of Housing (INVI), alleging the work caused the tree to fall.
Authorities in Coyoacán have suspended construction works and initiated legal actions. While the Mexico City Housing Secretariat maintains that the project has all necessary permits, the local mayoralty has placed suspension seals on the site as a preventive measure to investigate the incident.
