Tree removal sparks protests in Ravenna and Pescia Romana, Italy

In Ravenna, the Diocese ordered the felling of the monumental pine trees that had grown in the garden of the Galla Placidia mausoleum. Heritage groups—including the local branch of Italia Nostra and the "Salviamo i pini di Lido di Classe e Ravenna" association—condemned the action as a "destruction of a sacred heritage" and announced a protest in Piazza Duomo on 1 July.

In the town of Pescia Romana, municipal authorities cut down a dangerous pine on Viale dei Pini after repeated citizen reports and recent heavy rain. Opposition councillors acknowledged the necessity of the emergency work but criticised the administration for acting only in crises, calling for a comprehensive road‑renovation plan and greater investment in the area.

Both incidents have triggered local protests and political criticism over how public authorities handle tree removal and urban safety.
