Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand climb rankings after BWF bronze

Indian women’s doubles badminton pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have seen a significant rise in the world rankings following their bronze medal win at the BWF World Championships. The duo jumped 12 spots, moving from No. 39 to World No. 27.

Their performance marks the first time an Indian women’s doubles pair has medaled at the Championships since 2011. During the tournament, they defeated the fourth-seeded Chinese pair Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian in the quarterfinals before eventually losing to the defending champions in the semifinals.

While the bronze was India’s only medal at the home championships, analysts note that the country possesses a strong depth in women’s singles, with several players currently ranked in the top 50, suggesting potential for future dominance in the sport.
