Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand secure historic BWF World Championship medal

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have secured a historic medal for India at the 2026 BWF World Championships in New Delhi. The unseeded women's doubles pair defeated China's fourth-seeded duo, Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian, in a quarterfinal comeback victory with a score of 16-21, 21-15, 21-13.

This achievement marks India's first women's doubles medal at the World Championships since 2011. The victory guarantees the pair at least a bronze medal and advances them to the semifinals, where they are scheduled to face China's top seeds, Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning.

In other tournament developments, India's men's doubles campaign ended following a quarterfinal loss by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty to China's Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang. Additionally, PV Sindhu and Ayush Shetty were eliminated from their respective events earlier in the competition.
