Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand win historic BWF World Championships bronze
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand secured a historic bronze medal in women's doubles at the 2026 BWF World Championships in New Delhi. The unseeded Indian pair, ranked 39th globally, ended a 15-year drought for India in this category, with the last women's doubles medal having been won in 2011.
Their campaign included a significant quarter-final victory over China's fourth-seeded pair, Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian. Their run concluded in the semifinals following a three-game loss to the world No. 1 Chinese duo, Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning.
Badminton World Federation (BWF) President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul praised India for successfully hosting the tournament, noting it was the first time the championships returned to the country in 17 years. The Badminton Association of India (BAI) and various government ministries were credited for the event's organization, which received positive feedback from international players and officials.
