The maintenance is scheduled in stages to minimize the impact on local tourism and economic activities. The first stage involves replacing accessible hydromechanical equipment. The second stage, the controlled draining of the Timiș Trei Ape reservoir, is slated to begin in September 2026. During October and November, the water level will be kept at its minimum allowed level to enable repairs to the bottom-draining equipment.

The final stage involves a gradual refilling process starting in November 2026, which is expected to take approximately 105 days depending on weather conditions and water inflow. The project received approval from the Central Commission for the Evaluation of Dam Safety (CONSIB) in December 2024.
