Treichville University Hospital hosts free cataract surgery campaign

The Treichville University Hospital (CHU) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, has launched a humanitarian campaign to provide free cataract consultations and surgeries for 800 patients. Running from October 31 to November 13, 2026, the initiative aims to improve access to specialized eye care for vulnerable populations who lack the financial resources for such procedures.

The campaign is funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. It is being conducted with support from the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire, the Group of Spouses of Diplomatic Mission Chiefs accredited in Côte d’Ivoire, and the Ivorian Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene, and Universal Health Coverage via the National Eye Health Program. Other partners involved include the NGO Al Bassar.

Organizers emphasized that all services are entirely free of charge and warned the public against potential scams, noting that no payments, including electronic money transfers, should be required to receive treatment.
