Treinta y Tres flooding displaces over 1,600 people

In the Treinta y Tres department of Uruguay, intense rainfall and rising river levels have forced more than 1,600 people from their homes. According to Intendant Mario Silvera, approximately 100 individuals were formally evacuated to municipal shelters, while roughly 1,500 others chose to self-evacuate due to the rising waters of the Olimar River and its tributaries.

Local authorities are coordinating assistance through national agencies. The Ministry of Housing has recently provided 28 homes to vulnerable families, 15 of which have already been occupied by those affected by the weather conditions. Officials are meeting with the National Emergency System (Sinae) to coordinate logistics and request economic support from the national government.
