Trelawny residents displaced following Coopers Pen demolitions

The People’s National Party (PNP) has called for government assistance following the demolition of structures in the Coopers Pen community in Trelawny. Dennis Meadows, the PNP Chairman for Trelawny Northern, expressed concern over the humanitarian impact on families displaced by the operation.

Meadows noted that the displacement is occurring at a difficult time, as many residents are still recovering from Hurricane Melissa and are preparing for the upcoming school year. He emphasized the need for a coordinated response to minimize hardship for vulnerable residents and suggested that the government consider purchasing the property to subdivide it for those affected.

Additionally, Meadows criticized the apparent lack of advocacy from the local Member of Parliament and Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Tova Hamilton, regarding the needs of the displaced community.
