Trelew teacher acquitted of sexual abuse charges

Judge María Tolomei has acquitted Roxana Ortega, a teacher at School No. 201 in Trelew, who had been accused of sexually abusing three students in 2024.

Ortega faced charges of aggravated simple sexual abuse due to her position of authority over the children. During the ruling, the judge stated that the testimonies provided were “contaminated” and concluded that the prosecution failed to present sufficiently solid evidence to secure a conviction.

While the prosecution and the plaintiffs' legal counsel had requested prison sentences ranging from nine to sixteen years, the defense successfully argued for acquittal. The case originated in mid-2024 following reports from parents regarding incidents that allegedly occurred between April and June of that year.
