TREMBSL announces 11 electoral priorities for Bas-Saint-Laurent
The Table régionale des élus municipaux du Bas-Saint-Laurent (TREMBSL) has announced 11 key electoral expectations aimed at improving regional governance and services. Bruno Paradis, President of TREMBSL, stated that these priorities were collectively defined based on the local realities of municipal leaders across the territory.
A primary demand is the formal recognition of the role of Municipalités Régionales de Comté (MRCs) and municipalities, emphasizing the need for greater autonomy and predictable government transfers rather than mere subsidies. The group is calling for the decentralization of policies to better adapt to regional needs.
Regarding transportation, TREMBSL highlighted that current funding for regional collective transit is inadequate. They are seeking adjustments to funding programs and have requested authorization for a regional fuel tax increase of 2 cents per liter to support regional mobility needs.
