Tremiti Islands launch summer schools on Europe, memory, and energy

The Tremiti Islands are launching the ‘Arcipelago delle Diomedee’ project, a high-level training initiative featuring four summer schools focused on Europe, memory, and energy. Funded by the Puglia Region in collaboration with the Municipality of Tremiti Islands and local public universities, the project aims to transform the archipelago into an open-air laboratory for international debate and interdisciplinary research.

The initiative follows Regional Law n. 17/2023, which designates the Tremiti Islands as a symbolic site for freedom, culture, and European integration. The program utilizes an experiential learning model involving national and international researchers and professors.

The first phase of activities begins on September 13, with the first summer school organized by the University of Foggia and the University of Bari focusing on European themes, including democracy and active citizenship. Another program, ‘Ab Insula,’ organized by the Politecnico di Bari, will run from September 14 to 18, focusing on housing and the recovery of historical-cultural memory. The project is scheduled to continue through the spring of 2027.
