Tren de Aragua trial set for Ronald Ojeda murder case

An oral trial is scheduled to begin on October 20 for those accused in the kidnapping and murder of Venezuelan ex-military officer Ronald Ojeda. Ojeda was abducted on February 21, 2024, in Chile; his body was discovered ten days later buried under a concrete slab in a suitcase at the Santa Marta camp in Maipú, Santiago.

Investigative files identify the leaders of ‘Los Piratas’—the Tren de Aragua criminal cell responsible for the killing—as Rafael Gámez Salas (alias ‘El Turko’), Carlos Gómez (alias ‘Carlos Bobby’), and Dayonis Orozco (alias ‘El Boti’). The operation was reportedly coordinated via WhatsApp and ordered by Héctor Guerrero, alias ‘Niño Guerrero’, the leader of Tren de Aragua who died in June in Venezuela.

A detained individual alleged that the order for the kidnapping and murder came directly from Venezuelan politician Diosdado Cabello, acting through Guerrero. Other identified participants in the operation include Yolvi González Arcaya, who reportedly secured bulletproof vests and equipment to allow the group to impersonate Chilean investigative police (PDI) officers.
