Trenchless technology addresses aging sewer infrastructure

Trenchless technology is being highlighted for its role in addressing aging infrastructure and complex construction challenges. In Salt Lake City, Utah, service provider Utah Trenchless is noting that older residential and commercial buildings are increasingly prone to sewer failures due to deteriorating clay or cast iron pipes. These aging lines are susceptible to root intrusion, corrosion, and soil shifts, often causing recurring backups that homeowners may mistake for simple clogs.

On an industry level, Trenchless Technology Magazine has announced its 33rd annual Projects of the Year. The rehabilitation category winner is the Northwest Interceptor Rehabilitation Project in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This $2.8 million project involved rehabilitating a critical 60-inch non-reinforced concrete sewer crossing located at a depth of 45 feet.
