Trends in film length and streaming technology updates

Research by Stephen Follows indicates a growing trend of increasing film durations across various genres, from high-budget spectacles to art dramas. Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ is cited as a major example with a runtime of 173 minutes. Alberto Barbera, director of the Venice Film Festival, noted that runtimes of 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes are becoming a ‘new international standard.’ Industry figures like Joe Russo suggest that longer, ‘eventized’ cinema experiences may be a strategy to differentiate the theater experience from home streaming.

In the technology sector, Telemach has launched EON 3.0, an updated version of its television platform. The update features a redesigned user interface and utilizes artificial intelligence and machine learning to provide personalized content recommendations. This move aims to address the issue of users spending significant time searching for content. The rollout includes new applications for smart TVs and mobile devices, as well as the EON Smart Box, which the company claims is up to 50 percent faster than its predecessor.
