Trenitalia regional trains see high ridership for events in Friuli Venezia Giulia

Nearly 140,000 travelers used Trenitalia regional trains to attend major events across the Friuli Venezia Giulia region during the summer and autumn of 2026. Key events driving this demand included the Barcolana, which saw 69,350 travelers, and Gusti di Frontiera, which recorded 42,400 passengers.

To accommodate the influx of visitors for events such as the Bavisela SpringRUN, the Alpini gathering in Gemona, and concerts by artists including Andrea Bocelli and Gorillaz, 150 extraordinary trains were activated.

There has also been a significant rise in cycle tourism, with over 73,000 passengers transporting bicycles on regional trains, marking a 19.3% increase compared to 2025. Regarding regular traffic, nearly 8 million people had traveled on regional trains in the region as of September 30, with 475,000 of those passengers traveling to Trieste Airport.
