Trenitalia to change high-speed rail subscription model in November

Trenitalia is introducing a new pricing and reservation structure for high-speed train (AV) subscriptions starting in November. Under the new system, subscribers will be required to pay a fixed reservation fee of 2 euros per trip.

To offset this new cost, the price of high-speed subscriptions will be reduced by 80 euros. For example, a monthly standard subscription for the Rome-Naples route, currently priced at 418 euros, will drop to 338 euros. According to Assoutenti, a commuter making 30 trips per month would see a net saving of 20 euros compared to previous rates, while the break-even point occurs at 40 trips per month.

The measure aims to improve train occupancy rates and address the issue of subscribers reserving seats they do not ultimately use, which currently limits seat availability for other travelers.
