Trenitalia to simplify refunds after antitrust authority accepts commitments

Italy's competition watchdog, the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (AGCM), has approved a set of commitments presented by Trenitalia to make ticket refunds easier for passengers affected by long delays, cancellations or train suppressions. The company will remove the requirement for a prior attestation of travel renunciation, strengthen existing refund channels and extend the online chat service hours, and will launch a dedicated web page with clear information on refund procedures within three months. Under EU Regulation 2021/782, passengers are entitled to a full refund when a delay of at least 60 minutes is reasonably predictable at the time of departure. Trenitalia must report back to the AGCM on the implementation of these measures by the same three‑month deadline.
