Trenord expands Pay&Go contactless payments to new lines

Trenord has expanded its Pay&Go contactless payment system to two high-traffic routes: the Milano Cadorna-Novara Nord regional line and the S3 Milano Cadorna-Saronno suburban line. Developed in collaboration with FNMPAY, the payment institute of the FNM Group, the service aims to digitize travel and reduce the need for paper tickets.

The system operates on a ‘tap in / tap out’ basis. Passengers use a contactless credit, debit, or prepaid card (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, or American Express) or an NFC-enabled smartphone at station turnstiles or dedicated totems. To complete the transaction and ensure the correct fare is applied, passengers must tap again upon arrival. The system automatically calculates the fare based on the route taken, including specific airport rates for travelers using Malpensa Airport terminals.

This expansion adds to existing Pay&Go services on lines such as Como Lago, Laveno Mombello, and the Malpensa Express services from Cadorna and Centrale stations. Trenord intends to gradually extend this technology across its entire regional and suburban network in Lombardy.
