Trenord increases railway fares by 3.88% in Lombardy

Trenord has implemented a 3.88% increase in railway fares for commuters and travelers in Italy, effective September 1. The price hike follows a regional government resolution approved in July, citing adjustments for Istat inflation indices and company performance. Specifically, the transport sector saw a 3.9% cost increase, and the company met an 83% punctuality target, which triggered the full inflation adjustment.

The increase has drawn criticism from local political figures, including regional councilors Angelo Orsenigo and Matteo Piloni. Critics argue that the hike violates a previous unanimous regional government promise to freeze prices until 2027.

In the Cremona province, specific impacts include monthly subscriptions for the Cremona-Milan route rising from 103 to 107 euros, and annual subscriptions increasing by 38 euros. Piloni noted that while the company met certain performance metrics, the regional punctuality target of 83% remains significantly lower than the national average of 92%.
