TrensRJ app hacked to send political messages during elections

The mobile application for TrensRJ, the concessionaire operating trains in the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region, was targeted by a hacker attack on Sunday morning, coinciding with the start of the second round of elections.

Users received notifications containing political content, including requests for votes for presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The messages, which also included criticisms of the company’s services, were signed by a hacker group.

In addition to the app being compromised, the official TrensRJ website was also targeted and taken offline. The company stated it was aware of the incident and that technical teams were working to resolve the issues. At the time of reporting, the application continued to experience instabilities and the website remained inaccessible.
