Trent Alexander-Arnold reflects on death of Diogo Jota

Trent Alexander-Arnold has spoken about the emotional impact of the death of former teammate Diogo Jota. Jota, a Portuguese striker for Liverpool, passed away in a car accident in July 2025.

Alexander-Arnold, who moved from Liverpool to Real Madrid in the summer of 2025, described experiencing a ‘very, very difficult time’ following the accident. He noted the difficulty of processing the loss while being far away in the United States for pre-season training with his new club, separated from the Liverpool community that was mourning together.

The two players shared a close friendship and competitive bond. Alexander-Arnold later found closure during a Champions League match against Liverpool in November, where he and a delegation from Real Madrid laid flowers at a memorial site at Anfield Road.
