Trent Boult signs one-year deal with Sydney Thunder
New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult has signed a one-year contract with the Sydney Thunder for the 2026-27 Big Bash League (BBL) season. The 37-year-old returns to Australian franchise cricket after previously playing for the Melbourne Stars during the 2022-23 campaign.
Boult will join teammate Lockie Ferguson as part of a strengthened bowling attack under newly appointed head coach Andrew Flintoff. Flintoff noted that the familiarity between the two New Zealand players and the combination of left-arm and right-arm bowling angles should provide a significant boost to the team's performance.
Boult expressed excitement about returning to the league and contributing through aggressive powerplay bowling. His availability for the remainder of the season may be impacted by his scheduled participation with MI Cape Town in the SA20 tournament, depending on the Sydney Thunder's progress in the BBL.
