Trentino to pilot bow‑hunting for wild boar control from 2027

The regional government of Trentino approved a new wildlife‑management measure that will allow the use of bows for wild boar control. A pilot project is scheduled to begin in 2027, aimed at limiting the boar population that is damaging agricultural lands and increasing the risk of African swine fever. Participants must hold existing wild‑boar‑control licences and obtain additional qualification to use a bow.

The programme also introduces a “targeted control” system in which the Trentino forest corps will organise joint operations with qualified hunters, independent of regular hunting seasons. Officials say the quieter bow‑shooting method reduces disturbance to other wildlife, especially during breeding periods, while providing extra capacity to curb the boar expansion.
