Trevi Fountain coin donations support Rome charities

The Trevi Fountain in Rome continues its long-standing tradition of attracting millions of tourists who participate in the ritual of throwing coins into the water to ensure a return to the Eternal City. This practice generates significant revenue, with approximately 3,000 euros collected daily, totaling roughly 1.5 million euros annually.

Since 2001, all funds collected from the fountain have been officially redirected to Caritas Rome, a Catholic humanitarian organization. The collection process involves municipal workers using specialized vacuums to clear the coins from the marble floor under police supervision. Once collected, the money is dried, cleaned, and sorted by volunteers to support the city's most vulnerable residents.
