Trevor “Buju” Bailey appointed acting Police Commissioner in St. Vincent

Trevor “Buju” Bailey has been appointed as the acting Commissioner of Police for the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), effective August 17, 2026. Junior Simmons will take on the role of acting Deputy Commissioner.

The leadership change follows a period of increasing tension regarding the tenure of the previous commissioner, Enville Williams. While the government had initially supported Williams, emphasizing stability and performance, his leadership faced public criticism. Lawyer Jomo Thomas specifically called for Williams to be relieved of duty following a triple homicide in Kingstown, citing tactical failures and a lack of public respect for the force due to past misconduct.

The transition marks a shift from the administration’s earlier stance of maintaining the existing leadership to address the growing concerns regarding operational effectiveness and the relationship between the police and the public.
